As a proud local for over 30 years, I’m committed to making Noosa a better place to live, work and play.

Policy Focus Areas

Protecting & Enhancing Our Waterways

Clean, accessible, sustainable, sensible, cost-effective practices for the Noosa River.

Caring about the health of the Noosa River and waterways is important to so many people in the Noosa Shire and it’s why I am behind this community driven policy.

We must ensure Noosa’s world renowned waterways are protected & preserved and it is vital we maintain a sustainable, robust and resilient maritime environment.

Policy Proposals:

  • Embrace Sensible, Cost-Effective Initiatives that prioritise practical and budget-friendly measures to enhance river health and safeguard the marine environment.

  • Focus on Landside River Catchment that elevates the Council's jurisdiction over the landside river catchment area to address key issues discussed in the Resilient Rivers Initiative. Concentrate efforts on reducing sediment, chemical, and human waste inflows into the river for a healthier water system.

  • Investigate Mooring & Anchoring options that enforce responsible regulations to govern mooring and anchoring practices, emphasising the conservation of the riverbed and reducing environmental impact.

  • Improve Water Quality by conducting water monitoring initiatives to detect and address potential pollutants. There are local councils around the Nation that use a variety of infrastructure measures to assist from a local council. I will investigate these innovative options and present to the community for consultation.

  • Increase Water Safety Awareness by implementing of comprehensive safety measures to safeguard the well-being of both residents and visitors enjoying Noosa's waterways. I will advocate for enhanced emergency response capabilities, integral to swiftly addressing incidents and ensuring the protection of both people and the environment.

Keeping Our Community Safe

A safer, more secure environment for all residents.

Key factors such as road safety, adequate lighting, well-maintained footpaths and accessible amenities are all important to ensure the safety and well-being of our community and to enhance the overall commuting experience for families, athletes, workers and to encourage an active lifestyle.

Policy Proposals:

  • Implementing and Improving Road Safety Initiatives including traffic calming measures, signage, and pedestrian crossings to create a secure environment for residents and commuters.

  • Ensuring Adequate Lighting in Public Areas including streets, parks, and pathways, to enhance visibility and contribute to a safer environment during day and night.

  • Prioritising Regular Path Maintenance including footpaths, sidewalks, and public walkways to prevent hazards.

  • Enhancing the Safety of Community Amenities by ensuring they are well-maintained, easily accessible, and designed with safety features.

  • Attend the high schools and Re-introduce a Young Local Council (we had one 20 years ago) and listen to our younger generation about keeping our community safe.

Waste Management & Environmental Sustainability

Together we can pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future for Noosa.

Prioritising effective waste reduction & streamlining local initiatives that promote recycling, composting and responsible consumption will heighten awareness and promote action for a cleaner, greener Noosa Shire.

Policy Proposals:

  • Introduce and Support Comprehensive Waste Reduction programs to minimise the environmental impact of waste in Noosa. This includes advocating for and implementing policies that prioritise waste reduction at the source, encouraging businesses and residents to adopt practices that generate less waste.

  • Establish and Enhance Local Initiatives for Recycling and Composting. Collaborate with community organisations, businesses, and residents to implement effective recycling programs and composting facilities. Provide educational resources to inform the public about proper recycling practices and the benefits of composting. Look at compost bins **Western Australia do this really well, investigate and present to our locals initiatives being used elsewhere successfully

  • Implement Public Awareness and Engagement Campaigns to educate residents about the importance of waste management and environmental sustainability. Use multi-channel communication to share information about the impact of waste on the local ecosystem and promote community engagement in sustainable practices. Attend the high schools and re-introduce a young local council (we had one 20 years ago) and listen to our younger generation about waste management.

  • Strategic Collaboration. Foster partnerships with local environmental organisations, businesses, and educational institutions to create a collaborative approach to waste management and environmental sustainability. Leverage the expertise and resources of these entities to develop and implement effective strategies for a greener Noosa.

A note from Jess…

Hi, thanks for being here.

I know the Noosa Shire is brimming with talented candidates, thank you for considering me to be your voice and advocate as we work together to make Noosa a place where we can live and thrive

One of my favourite things about community service is actually involving the community in the decision-making. Because community service is about collaboration, transparency and honesty, the best decisions can only be made when the desires of that community have been heard and balanced.

So when it comes to balancing community needs, think of me as the person who can bridge the gap between academic rigor and practical community responsiveness. As a trained investigator and frontline responder, my expertise stands out when navigating high-pressure challenges facing the Noosa Shire.
